  • December 16, 1997 - Typhoon Paka (pictured) hit Guam causing $236 million in damage on the island. A gust of 236 mph (380 km/h) was recorded on the island, which if confirmed would have been the highest non-tornadic wind ever recorded on the surface of the Earth.
