- August 1, 1982 - Typhoon Bess (1982) (pictured) made landfall on southern Honshū in Japan as a minimal typhoon. Rainfall from Bess caused over 1000 landslides and killed 59 people.
- August 2, 1922 - The 1922 Swatow Typhoon devastated Shantou in Guangdong, China, killing 50000 out of a total of 65000 people in the city.
- August 3, 1899 - The 1899 Hurricane San Ciriaco develops in the central Atlantic. The storm later hits Puerto Rico (pictured), killing over 3000 and lasted for 31 days in total, becoming the longest lived Atlantic hurricane on record.
- August 4, 2002 - Tropical Storm Kammuri (pictured) made landfall near Shanwei, China killing over 100 people.
- August 5, 1990 - Hurricane Diana (pictured) made its first landfall on the Yucatán Peninsula as a tropical storm. Diana killed 139 people and caused about $90 million of damage in Mexico.
- August 6, 1959 - Hurricane Dot (track pictured) made landfall on Kauai, Hawaii as a Category 1 hurricane, causing about $6 million of damage in the state.
- August 7, 1980 - Hurricane Allen (pictured) reached its peak strength in the Caribbean Sea with winds of 190 mph (305 km/h) while south of Cuba. Allen killed over 230 and caused $2.5 billion along its path.
- August 8, 1975 - Severe rainfall from Typhoon Nina (track pictured) caused the Banqiao Dam in Henan, China to fail with the resulting flood killing tens of thousands. Many more people died in subsequent epidemics and famines.
- August 9, 1976 - Hurricane Belle (pictured) reached its peak with a central pressure of 957 mbar (hPa) off the East Coast of the United States. Belle caused $100 million of damage in the US.
- August 10, 2006 - Typhoon Saomai (pictured) made landfall on Zhejiang, China as a typhoon. Saomai killed over 400 people and caused $1.5 billion of damage.
- August 11, 1856 - The 1856 Last Island Hurricane (track pictured) hit Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane, destroying the offshore Last Island. At least 200 people were killed by the hurricane.
- August 12, 2004 - Typhoon Rananim (pictured) reached its peak east of Taiwan with 170 km/h (105 mph) winds. Ranamin later made landfall in Zhejiang, China killing 115 and causing over $4 billion in damage.
- August 13, 2004 - Hurricane Charley (pictured) made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane near Tampa Bay, Florida. Charley caused over $16 billion in damage.
- August 14, 1970 - Typhoon Wilda made landfall on western Kyūshū, Japan as a 170 km/h (105 mph) typhoon. Wilda brought heavy rain to Japan which killed 11.
- August 15, 1979 - Typhoon Irving reached its peak with 160 km/h (100 mph) winds to the east of China. Irving made later landfall in South Korea killing 150 and causing over $10 million of damage.
- August 16, 1971 - Typhoon Rose (track pictured), also called Typhoon Ruping reached its peak with a central pressure of 952 hPa (mbar) in the South China Sea as it approached the Chinese coast. Rose severely affected Hong Kong and killed a total of 110 people.
- August 17, 1969 - Hurricane Camille (pictured) made landfall on the Mississippi coast with 190 mph (305 km/h) winds, the strongest winds of any landfalling tropical cyclone. Camille killed over 250 and caused $1.4 in damage.
- August 18, 1983 - Hurricane Alicia (pictured) made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Galveston, Texas. Alicia killed 21 and caused $2 billion in damage.
- August 19, 1991 - Hurricane Bob (pictured) reached its peak strength with 115 mph (180 km/h) winds of the East Coast of the United States, where it caused $1.5 billion in damage.
- August 20, 1886 - The Indianola Hurricane of 1886 hit the Texas coast near Indianola (pictured) with winds of 155 mph (250 km/h). The storm killed over 74 people and the town was abandoned.
- August 21, 1994 - Hurricane John (pictured) entered the central Pacific Ocean. John is the longest-lived tropical cyclone on record, lasting for 31 days and travelling over 8,000 miles (13,000 km).
- August 22, 1927 - The 1927 Nova Scotia Hurricane reached its peak strength with 120 mph (195 km/h) winds as it approached Nova Scotia, where it killed 184 and caused $1.1 million in damage.
- August 23, 1964 - Hurricane Cleo (pictured) reached its peak strength with 155 mph (250 km/h) winds in the Caribbean Sea. Cleo hit Haiti the next dayh killing about 200 there.
- August 24, 1992 - Hurricane Andrew made landfall near Homestead, Florida as a Category 5 hurricane. Andrew caused about $26 billion of damage (pictured) making it the second costliest hurricane to strike the United States (after Hurricane Katrina).
- August 25, 1873 - The Nova Scotia Hurricane of 1873 (track pictured) moved away from the Nova Scotia coast towards Newfoundland, after killing about 500 people and causing $5.9 million of damage.
- August 26, 2006 - Hurricane Ioke (pictured) reached its peak with a central pressure of 920 mbar (hPa), becoming the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the central Pacific. Shortly afterwards, Ioke entered the west Pacific and became a typhoon.
- August 27, 1893 - The 1893 Sea Islands Hurricane (track pictured) made landfall near Savannah, Georgia with winds of about 120 mph (220 km/h). The hurricane killed between 1,000 and 2,000 on the Sea Islands of the Georgia and South Carolina coasts.
- August 28, 1992 - Typhoon Omar (pictured) hit Guam, flooding much of the island. Omar caused about $450 million of damage there, but only caused 2 fatalities.
- August 29, 2005 - Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Gulf Coast, flooding much of New Orleans (pictured) and severely damaging Mississippi. Katrina caused over $81 billion of damage, making it the costliest tropical cyclone on record.
- August 30, 1979 - Hurricane David (pictured) reached its peak strength with 175 mph (280 km/h) winds in the Caribbean Sea. The next day it made landfall on Hispaniola near Santo Domingo killing over 2000 in the Dominican Republic
- August 31, 2002 - Typhoon Rusa (pictured) struck South Korea killing 113 people and causing $6 billion in damages.
