TRL UK is a version of the popular American Total Request Live which originated in 1997, however it was not brought to the UK until the last quarter of 2003.

It is broadcast weekdays at 4.30pm originally in 2003 however the time slot was changed as it ran in to its second season it was then broadcast at 6.00pm in 2005.

The show's main presenter was Dave Berry who was joined by another of MTV's guest presenter each day.

The show follows the format of the original Total Request Live it shows a Top 10 Countdown with Musical Guests and Actors and Actresses.

It's broadcast from London's Leicester Square from the UK's capital and the presenters stand in front of a glass window facing down onto the street to the audience just like the U.S.'s version is filmed live from New York with glass windows facing down on the audience.

The outside audience members usually cheer and hold signs up. A recent example would be where Christina Aguilera was premiering her new video in June 2006 for Ain't No Other Man on MTV's TRL, U.S. a banner was held up saying CHRISTINA CAN WE COME UP AND MEET YOU!

[edit] Most Famous Episode's

The most famous episode consists of where Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan are having a pub quiz with Alex Zane and Maxine. Avril and Simple Plan's group called the 'Canadian Connection' win on the question 'Which Year Did Canada Become A Self Governed State?'.

Another famous episode is where Dave Berry hands an expensive guitar to all the members of the studio audience as a Christmas 2005 present.

[edit] Impact

TRL didn't have the same impact as the U.S.A's version as the U.S.A.'s version kick started the careers of Backstreet Boys, N'Sync and Christina Aguilera. TRL did not do this for UK based acts.

[edit] Future

The Future looks uncertain as the last episode was broadcast in December 2005.

[edit] The End?

Many fear that TRL UK has come to an end; MTV said that they would be taking it off the air to bring it back next year (2006), however nothing has been materialised.

Also Dave Berry has other presenting commitments with other channels. As he is set to become the face again of the new look CD:UK.
