Trituration

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trituration may refer to one of several processes in various sciences. Commonly, it may refer to the grinding of powders in a pestle and mortar. In organic chemistry, trituration is a method for inducing crystallization of a pure compound from an impure oil or the process of separating two solid compounds by selectively dissolving one compound in a solvent in which the other is insoluble. And in cell biology, trituration is a process where dissected tissue clumps are broken up by passing them repeatedly through a pipet to dissociate cells for culture.
