Triplicane, situated about 1/2 a km away from the sea coast (of Bay of Bengal) and the Fort St George, is currently one of the oldest central business districts of Chennai, South India. Triplicane also has several residential areas. Some believe that Triplicane owes its name to its Puranic existence as Tiruvallikeni or Tiru-Alli-Keni denoting the Alli flowers in the pond in front of the Parthasarathy temple - Keni in Tamil means a pond. Some ascribe the name, Triplicane, to a modern form of Thulasivanam, meaning a forest of tulsi plants. This place is also referred as Vrundha-raNyam Puranic scriptures known to have had a beautiful garden with peacocks.

Triplicane has several temples including one which is known as Sri Parthasarthy Temple (Parthasarathy Kovil), devoted to Krishna, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The temple was built by a king of Pallava dynasty, and is believed to be built in 8th century. Triplicane is one of the revered 108 Dhivya desams for Vaishnavites.

Triplicane is one of the most beautiful of all suburbs in Chennai. It is flanked by the Majestic Marina Beach, the 2nd largest sand beach in the world, and the lofty Parthasarathy Perumal Koil towards west. Proud for its cricketing traditions, the Chepauk Cricket Ground is in Triplicane.

Triplicane is also famous for the various personalities it has produced over the years.Subramanya Bharathy, the famous freedom fighter and poet lived his last years in triplicane. The Hindu higher secondary school with a history of over 150 years and has given out great people. Triplicane is also famous for its varied culture. One of the oldest mosques in south India is situated in triplicane.

Swami Vivekananda, the great son of India had visited triplicane and five of his most famous lectures were here. It was on the idea of a triplicane resident Sri Alasingar the swamiji went to America and delivered the Chicago lecture which made the world turn towards India.[citation needed]

Triplicane had to its credit other famous personalities like Dr.Chandrasekar,writer Sujatha,cricketers M.J. Gopalan,Krish Srikanth.W.V.Raman and so many others.

It also boasts of one of the oldest CBSE schools in chennai,The Hindu Senior Secondary School,Triplicane.

Triplicane is also called as the Bachelors Paradise of Chennai. The locality has a large number of mansions, which is nothing but an euphemism for guest houses.Most of these mansions are guest houses or lodges, where you can stay paying a monthly rent. Many of them are suitable for students, working professionals, or even those in the city for a short duration. Walk around the lanes of Triplicane during evening time, and you find a host of youngsters conversing in a babel of languages. English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam you are all likely to listen to them.

Triplicane has all communities living in harmony. We can see all religious festivals being celebrated colourfully. By living in Triplicane we get to know many aspects of other religions. And there is a decent amount of foreign crowd who take lodging here.

Triplicane is also famous for Book Stalls, all educational books(college, school) are found here. Triplicane is also famous for used bikes, the road which hosts the great Chepauk stadium is filled with used bike-selling shops. Its Pycrofts Road is a mini T-Nagar, where in you can buy any kind of garments. Triplicane as so many fast foods and mid size restaurants.

The service road inside Marina beach is the cricket pitch for many young emerging cricketers who play their beach cricket regularly. Triplicane has everything to make your life happy, like food, shopping, markets, beach, theatres, etc. Its location gives it easy access to most of the important places in Chennai. Triplicane is a PARADISE.
