Tripel Westmalle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tripel Westmalle is a Belgian trappist beer brewed by Brouwerij Westmalle (a brewery located within the walls of the abbey of Westmalle, Antwerp). It was first brewed in 1934 and the recipe has not changed since 1956, that is the reason it is called sometimes “mother of all tripels”. It is quite a strong blond beer (9.5% ABV). The label on a bottle states that it is best consumed at any temperature from 8 to 12 °C.
Tripel Westmalle comes in two sizes: usual 33 cl bottle and a big bottle of 75 cl. While the former gives richer fruity taste, the latter tastes more mature and has a slight touch of vanilla in it. The beer ferments in the bottle, and, although tasty at any time, improves with keeping. It allows a period of two years. However, it is arguably best to drink it after six months.
