* Challenging academic standards and a rigorous curriculum for all students; * A disciplined, supportive, safe and drug-free environment; * Participatory leadership and a strong partnership among the family, school and community; * Excellent teaching and an environment that strengthens teacher skills and improvement; * Low dropout rates and documented student achievement.
Trinity School graduates have been accepted at prestigious colleges and universities around the country including the University of Notre Dame, Stanford, Saint Mary's, Presbyterian, and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Each graduate leaves Saint Mary's with excellent writing, time management, scientific observation, logic, and mathematical skills.
Many of the teachers at Trinity School hold the highest degree in their field and are known for their command of the material they teach. They also find ways to make the material appeal to students.
[edit] Facilities
Trinity School at Greenlawn occupies a complex of buildings that began as a mansion for one of South Bend's most prestigious business men. A convent was later built around the mansion - although the original mansion still stands on the poperty and is used for school events such as prom and receptions. When Trinity School aquired the poperty, they converted the convent into a school building.
[edit] Criticism
Trinity School at Greenlawn has been criticized for appearing to favor students who belong to the People of Praise organization leading to discontentment among students who have no desire to join the People of Praise. It has also been criticized for approaching religion from the view of the great philosophers (such as Socrates and Aristotle) instead of pure biblical teachings. Finally, the focus on education and separate classes for boys and girls has both positive and negative connotations. Keeping the two sexes separate allows the students to focus on the class material, gives them more opportunities to participate in class and allows the teachers to tailor their presentation of the material to either boys or girls. However, it causes students to keep relationships secret going as far as to hide from school officials, sneak away from parents, as well as other extremes. Trinity has also gone as far as to expel students who are found to be in compromising situations such as pregnancies.
