Trinity Catholic Technology College

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trinity Catholic School is a secondary school in Leamington Spa, England. Trinity is well known for its liberal ethos (started by Peter Hastings), where students call teachers by their first names. The school has both Technology and Arts status and had been awarded Arts Mark Gold award. It is known for its superb special needs department and it has also been commended by HMI 's on its excellent modern language teaching. The school also has its own Sixth Form College on site.

Trinity was the secondary school of both members of recent chart topping band Nizlopi. Trinity was also the beginnings of actor Sam Troughton who can be seen playing "Much" in the current hit BBC series of Robin Hood. He returned recently to the school to open the new theatre building.

Until recently the School was on two separate sites: Dormer Hall on Myton Road in Warwick, and Bishop Bright on Guy's Cliff Avenue. However, in September 2005, after a multi million pound extension, Trinity moved to a single site at Bishop Bright.

The school is delighted to have the continued services of Sir Francis Gerrish (MBE), head of media studies and patron of the arts. His twenty year reign at the school was rewarded with the MBE which was presented to him in 2005 by his Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales at Buckingham palace, his citation stated that he was awarded the MBE for "services to the study of mass media and the diligent and progressive nature of his instruction of the key concepts" He continues to teach at the school and is revered by pupils and staff alike as an almost legendary figure.

The school has had many successes from students past and present. An Arts student who was at the school at the time had work exhibited in the Tate Modern gallery. A past Year 9 girls football team also reached the final of the Schools cup.
