Trillium cernuum L. |
Trillium cernuum (Nodding Trillium) is a species of Trillium found in the northeastern United States and southern Canada.
The Nodding Trillium is an herbaceous perennial that grows to be from 6 to 18 inches tall. It has three abruptly pointed leaves at the top of its stem, and a solitary perfect flower hanging below the leaves. The flower is white or occasionally purple with purple stamens. Each flower has three sepals, three petals, six stamens, and a solitary pistil. Each petal is 1-2 inches long, and the peduncle holding the flower can be 1-4½ inches long. The Nodding Trillium produces a reddish berry in the summer.
