The Superfamily Trigoniacea Lamarck are the sole representatives of the Order Trigonioida. Their distribution is widespread within the fossil record and they range from the Devonian Period to recent.
The diagnosis for the Superfamily is identified by the unique and complex dentition (i.e. the interior teeth that join the two shells together), which is parficularly profound within the Family Trigoniidae Lamarck.
