Trideps (トリデプス Toridepusu?, Trideps in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Trideps is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Trideps in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]

Its Japanese name is a portmanteau of the Japanese word for fortress ( toride?) and the "-ceratops" suffix used to describe prehistoric horned dinosaurs such as the famous Triceratops.

[edit] Biological characteristics

Trideps resembles a stylized Ceratopsid dinosaur with some aspects of a castle wall and a bulldozer. Its head is shaped like a large shield and resembles a fortress tower, with yellow patterns resembling windows. It has hard 'boots' on its leg, horns on its head, and spikes on its back.

Trideps is evolved from Shieldon, who, as in previous generations, is revived from a fossil; like Omanyte, Kabuto, Lileep, and Anorith.

It lived in dense forests roughly 100 million years ago. It is characterized by as well as named for the shield on its face.

[edit] In the video games

Trideps is one of many new Pokémon to have made its first appearance in the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS.

Trideps is used by the sixth Gym Leader of Sinnoh, Tougan, at level 39.

Trideps can only be obtained by evolving Shieldon, which is revived from a fossil exclusively found in Pokémon Pearl. Its counterpart, Rampard, can only be obtained in Pokémon Diamond.

Its type combination of Rock and Steel makes it resistant to many other types, but makes it extremely vulnerable to Ground and Fighting attacks. However, its extremely high Defense offsets this weakness somewhat. It also has an extremely high Special Defense, making it very difficult to defeat. Unfortunately, the extremely high defensive stats are balanced out by very low stats in all other areas (similar to Shuckle, but not as extreme).
