Triathlon one 0 one
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Triathlon One 0 One is a 101 Mile Triathlon race. In 2006 the ITU reduced the distance of the Long Distance World Championships to a swim/bike/run of 3/130/30 kilometers. Their argument was that Longer triathlons were unhealthy for athletes and the shorter distance appealed more to the media broadcasting events. The World Triathlon Corporation has been offering races at both the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 distances. The Ironman being considerably longer than One 0 One Distance and the Ironman 70.3 being considerably shorter. The underlying belief is that long distance triathlons, but shorter than a full ironman are desired by triathletes around the globe.
Initially the Tri One 0 One organizers have been pitching the benefits of this distance directly to athletes. Larger prizes have been offered than the world triathlon corporation in hopes of luring elite athletes to participate. Underlying this strategy is likely the desire to establish it as a respected contender in the world of long distance triathlon.
