Trial races for the Epsom Derby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Epsom Derby currently has nine recognised trials in the United Kingdom or Ireland. In the twenty years from 1987 to 2006, all but four Derby winners had run previously in one of these trials.
The four exceptions are Dr Devious (ran in the Kentucky Derby, finishing 7th), Commander in Chief (won the Glasgow Stakes at York), Lammtarra and Shaamit (both were having their first race of the season in the Derby).
