[edit] Story

The gang arrives on a floating island, high above the clouds. Since they’re so high up, the sun is very bright. Yugi collapses, still being tired from his last battle. In the shade of a cave, Téa uses Happy Lover to heal him, but he collapses again. Joey thinks that they should pass the test while Yugi rests.

A bright light shines from outside the cave, materializing into another Egyptian scroll. Grandpa reads:

Once a day, the unbreakable stone appears in the valley of light.
To achieve the impossible, fight with a power that’s greater than physical might.

Joey, Tristan, and Grandpa go to solve the riddle, while Téa decides to stay with Yugi.

Joey, Tristan, and Grandpa travel down into a gorge. The sun shines directly into the gorge, revealing it to be the “valley of light”. Since the valley is only alight at noon, once a day, the “unbreakable stone” must be down there somewhere.

Finding the stone, Tristan summons Thunder Kid, who tries to break it by attacking it. The attack doesn’t even leave a scratch. Prisman appears, and Joey summons Flame Swordsman to attack it. Thunder Kid and Flame Swordsman’s attacks seem to have no effect, though, and the glass monster retaliates by refracting the sunlight and firing it as a laser. Joey protects Grandpa while Tristan and Thunder Kid distract the monster. One of the lasers hits the stone, and leaves a tiny dent. Tristan gets the idea and tricks the monster into attacking the stone more.

Meanwhile, Yugi dreams that the Pharaoh is fighting a red-eyed shadow creature – and losing. Yugi wakes up, startled, and walks outside to find Téa holding the riddle that the others left behind. Yugi switches with the Pharaoh so that he can read the scroll. The Pharaoh observes that the riddle, called “The Trial of Light and Shadows”, speaks only of light. Téa suggests that they think about it in the shade, and the Pharaoh, realizing something, calls Téa a genius. They run inside the cave and the message changes in the dark. The Pharaoh reads it and says that their friends may be in trouble!

Back in the valley, Prisman’s attacks have made a substantially sized hole in the stone. Joey and Tristan use a rock to block Prisman’s attacks, and the Flame Swordsman destroys it. However, more trouble begins as a shadowy creature rises from the rubble of the stone!

As Téa and the Pharaoh make their way down into the valley, the Pharaoh tells Téa that once the creature of light is defeated, a new, more dangerous creature is born. When they arrive, they find that Joey, Tristan, and Grandpa are being attacked by a dark-armored Duel Monster. The Pharaoh fuses with his Dark Magician and attacks the monster, causing a chest to materialize in the background. Joey commands Flame Swordsman to attack, but the Pharaoh stops him saying that in order to pass the test, they needed to show mercy. He quotes the riddle:

When light is extinguished, the true test begins,
For a creature of darkness it brings.
But only the righteous and peaceful shall pass,
And receive the endowment of wings.

The Pharaoh opens the chest, revealing a number of man-made wings.

The mysterious cloaked man the Pharaoh saw before appears behind them, congratulating them on their victory. The Pharaoh asks who he is, and the man doesn't answer, saying only that he is a friend. The second section of Téa's pendant lights up, signifying that they have passed the second test. The man goes to leave, but the Pharaoh stops him, asking what will happen if they fail. The man says that they would be trapped in that world until the next warrior came. "And if we pass these trials?" the Pharaoh asks, "What will happen then?" "You will have proven yourself a true king, and the power you deserve shall be yours." the man says. "I don't want any power!" The Pharaoh protests as the man walks away. "There are those that do, and you must claim this power before they do." the man responds, as he fades into the shadow.

Back above the valley, the gang spreads their wings and flies off to the next trial. In the pyramid, Alex Brisbane plots to take the power for his own!
