[edit] Plot Summary
Gotham's deadliest criminals, The Joker, Two-Face, Mad Hatter, Ventriloquist, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, kidnap Batman and put him on trial in Arkham Asylum. The Dark Knight's only hope rests with District Attorney Janet Van Dorn who, despite her anti-Batman stance, is forced into defending the Caped Crusader's life as well as her own.
In working Batman's defense, Van Dorn makes each witness in the twisted trial confess that while they might have been inspired by Batman to use colorful costumes and gimmicks, the superhero is not to blame for them turning to crime. The inmates eventually agree, but decide to kill their hostages anyway. However, Batman uses the delay Van Dorn created to escape his bonds and defeats the inmates.
In the end, Dorn gains a new respect for the Dark Knight, but still vows to strive to change things that would make him unnecessary. In turn, Batman respectfully wishes her success.
[edit] Notes
- The Scarecrow and The Riddler appear, but have no lines, though Scarecrow decapitates the Ventriloquist's dummy Scarface with his scythe.
- A trio of villains from the Batman Adventures comic book also appear in a non-speaking cameo. They are Mastermind, the Professer and Mr. Nice.
- The original idea was thought of for the feature film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. [1]
- The Joker references Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In's catchphrase, "Here comes the judge!"
- A previous episode, Almost Got 'Im, is referenced when Killer Croc suggests, as a punishment for Batman, to "hit him with a rock!".
