Tres Islas is a small pre-Columbian Maya archaeological site located 20 km north of Cancuen in northern Guatemala. Dating to the Early Classic, Tres Islas was typically subordinate to other, stronger polities, including that centered at Cancuen. The site contains 3 stele and structure similar to Uaxactun’s Temple Observatory. Within the vicinity of Tres Islas are the San Francisco Hills, an area covering approximately 35 km2 and typified by steep limestone hills dotted with small caves.
