Trends in Genetics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Trends in Genetics (ISSN 0168-9525) is a monthly review journal, and one of fourteen Trends titles that each focus on different areas of life science. The Trends journals are published by Elsevier and aimed at academic, industrial and applied scientists as well as students.
TIG is the most established monthly review journal in genetics, with articles from developmental biology to genomics in all systems, from human, mouse and fly, to worm, yeast and plant. Launched in 1985, its magazine style – short articles on topical advances – was unique among genetics journals of the time. It rapidly gained popularity and remains among the most highly cited genetics journals.
The format of the journal consists of four main article types: Research Focus articles, which provide succinct summaries of recent developments; mini-review style Reviews, and Opinion articles, which have greater scope for hypothesis and personal perspective; and the well-known Genome Analysis section featuring original observations on the function, organization and evolution of genomes. All articles are written in an accessible style by leading researchers, and aim to cover advances in understanding and emerging themes within genetics.
Topics covered include:
• Genomics
• Structure and evolution of genomes
• Evolutionary genetics
• Functional genomics
• Epigenetics
• Mechanisms of genetic disease
• Gene expression
• Genetics of development
