Treaty of Addis Ababa

The Treaty of Addis Ababa, signed in October 1896, abrogated the Treaty of Wuchale and formally ended the First Italo–Ethiopian War on terms favorable to Ethiopia. Under the Treaty, Italy recognized Ethiopia as an independent state and delineated borders with Italian-controlled Eritrea. The treaty was completed several months after the decisive Battle of Adowa in March of the same year, which was convincingly won by the Ethiopian forces commanded by Menelek II.[1]
