Episode chronology

"Treacherous Like Toros" is an episode of the series Ōban Star-Racers.

While Rick searches for answers, "Molly" races in the preliminary semi-final against a commanding officer in the Crog army. The experience later proves to be disastrous, especially when she loses the race...

[edit] Plot

96 teams came to Alwas, but only 6 remain.

...so notes Don Wei of the Earth Team.

Because of episode length constraints, episode 7 disregards the other preliminary races (which Molly wasn't in), and fast forwards ahead to the semifinals, where the winners will get to compete in the grand final on the planet Ōban (hence, "The Great Race of Ōban"). During the introduction of the semi-finalists we are introduced to Spirit who after Molly looks at him, she collapses slightly and has a flashback of her mother's crash and remarks "Something about his face." Meanwhile, Rick is searching for answers as he suspects sabotage when he finds a part that wasn't part of the Star-Racer. The trail leads to an Alwan merchant named Zars, whom Rick pressures for the answers he seeks. In the first semifinal, Prince Akkika loses against his opponent, Spirit. Afterwards Molly's turn comes up. She is racing against Toros, a colonel in the army of the Crogs, the alien race trying to take over Earth (and whom Jordan appears to have some kind of grudge against). This is Molly's first encounter with the Crogs. Unfortunately for her, this encounter proves to be disastrous when, after gaining what appears to be a huge lead over her opponent, Toros' "trident" (a Crog fighter) not only catches up to her in an instant, but actually cuts the Star-Racer in two, making it impossible for her to finish the race. Don Wei appears to give them a pep talk about how even champions lose sometime, but Molly assumes that he is just saying something he doesn't really mean, or perhaps he did mean it, but it was just her bruised ego speaking. Afterwards Molly runs away and ends up in Prince Aikka's garage. After a "rough reception", Aikka tries to comfort her, with neither one suspecting that they will be racing each other the next day. Meanwhile, there is a distinct possibility that the Arrow 1 was indeed sabotaged that day, as it is revealed that someone is in fact working for a higher power...
