Travia: The Advent of Chaos (also known as Global Travia or Travia Online) is a free MMORPG and is one of the many products under the wing of the successful Game&Game company. Unlike many other MMORPG that have come out recently, Travia does not need a high end computer to play because the graphics are very flexible. Travia does this by incorporating low polygons. This reduces the processing time, but does not reduce the detail of the figures.[1] Although Travia has been closely associated with another MMORPG, Cabal Online, there's a great difference in the game's structure. First, Travia supports both National Dispute Areas and National War Maps. Instead of straight-foward battle zones. Travia also has bonus dungeons for finding rare items. Unlike other MMORPGs, these dungeons are not a requirement passing any important quests. These are meant purely for players who want to try their luck in finding items.[2]

[edit] Gameplay

Travia incorporates a simple character system. The character is defined by four main attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Luck.[3]

  • Strength is affect the physical striking damage and HP
  • Dexterity is the probability of the reaction speed and the accuracy
  • Intelligence is a mandatory stat for a wizard and intellegence affect the character's magical power.
  • Luck is related with the probability of acquiring the better quality item. Luck is a mandatory stat for a cleric and a cleric's magical power is affected by luck.

Like most MMORPGs, the character's power is increased by earning Experience and increasing the level of character. Once you increase the level, you will get 5 stat points and 1 skill point.[4]

[edit] Skill

A character's skill is increased by skill points. There are nine different kinds of skills, each with a maximum of 20 points.

Skill chart (types):

  • Passive - This skill is used to increase physical damage or the force of the character’s mind. This skill is constantly active and cannot be "turned off" or "expire".
  • Physical Attack - A normal physical attack. No magic is involved
  • Self spell - This is normally called “Enchant Method”, which is developed by a mage or archer. The spell enchants the character itself and can be disappeared by an opponent’s magic or by a time limit.
  • Instant spell - These spells are put into effect instantly, like the magic of Healing, Teleporting, Purifying.
  • Magic attack: This attack is mainly used by all wizards.
  • Curse: This spell is made by black magic. Once cast the spell lingure on the enemy for a certail period of time
  • Summon: Some characters, like Elf archers have a skill to call a spirit or soul onto the field to aid the character.
  • Party Enchant: This spell enchants a group of people instead of just one. The spell is also called OORA and is slightly different than regular methods. It will be operate only if you continuously turn it on.
  • Transformation skill: This spell allow the character to change itself into another form.[5]

[edit] Class

Travia does not like to complicate the game world with a large variety of classes. Instead, Travia sticks to four simple classes.[6]

  • Wizard: These are magic users in the world of Travia. A wizard (a.k.a mage) uses the elements (fire, wind, water, etc) to cast spells. Whether they may be to shield someone or to strike.
  • Warrior: The warrior in Travia rely purely on brute strength to get the job done. All of the Warrior's skills involve martial arts or swordsmanship.
  • Archer: The archer is the range class in Travia. Like the Warrior, the archer rarely uses magic. The archer relys on archery to deal damage. However, unlike the warrior, the archer rely more on magic. The most notable is the ability to summon monsters to aid in battle.
  • Cleric: As the name implies, the cleric is the person who heals. However, in Travia, the Cleric is more then just a healer. The Cleric has may skills of the Warrior and focuses mainly on support spells such as focus and holy prison. Because of this, Clerics are not a "free kill" as they have often been.[7]
