note: Sierra Leone no longer has any common carrier railroads; the 762mm gauge Sierra Leone Government Railway closed in 1974.
The existing railroad is private and used on a limited basis connecting an iron ore mine at Marampa with Port Pepel. Tecsbacos the mining company is reported in 2006 to have problems of theft and obstruction in operating the railway. [1]

- Talks start with Russia to seek help to rebuild railways in the Country. Choice of gauge is problematic since original 760mm gauge is obsolete. May as well restart with 1435mm.
