[edit] History
Simulation games have been around since the dawn of computing, but they became popular with the acclaimed SimCity in 1989. One year later, Railroad Tycoon made its debut, marking a new version of sim: One that focused more on the transportation elements while still retaining the imaginitive open-ended gameplay.
