Transgressive Records
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Transgressive Records is an independent record label based in London, England which has been synonymous with new, cutting-edge British music since the end of 2004. Tim Dellow, and Toby L first got together at a Bloc Party gig organised by Toby's rockfeedback website. The first release on the label, 1am by The Subways, was released on September 17, 2004, funded by Tim's £1,000. Many bands featured on the label have gone on to have major success, such as The Subways, Mystery Jets and The Young Knives and subsequently Transgressive's highly sought after early releases have been selling for as much as £75 on internet auction site, eBay.
The label recently announced the Transgressive Roadshow [1].

[edit] Major Label Interest
Transgressive recently signed a consultancy deal with Warner Music, wherein they find two acts every two years for Warners (or one of their subsidiaries) to sign; Battle and Larrikin Love being the first bands to fall under this new deal. However this arrangement doesn't seem to have tempered their indie label ideals, or cynicism of the more unscrupulous major labels, as an article in The Times revealed:
“Most of the other offers haven’t been difficult to pass up,” continues Tim, before recalling an episode in which a major label offered them £30,000 each to put out the debut single by the label’s latest signing, thereby securing a measure of indie authenticity for the group. Tim’s voice lowers and he slips into the hapless A&R man’s character: “This is my problem, right? I can take this band from B to C. Easy. But what I can’t do is take them from A to B. And that's where you come in. You help me take them from A to B and I’ll take you from C to . . .”
Both chorus: “Beyond your wildest dreams!”
Tim reels off a list of other heavily promoted bands on whose behalf Transgressive has been approached. “The fingerprints of major labels are all over MySpace at the moment, putting their new acts on there and trying to create a buzz.”
