Upon graduation from VT-10 or VT-4 [just across the flightline at NAS Pensacola on the Florida panhandle] students check into VT-86.
VT-86's mission is to provide advanced flight instruction to Naval Flight Officers, which has an acronym of NFO.
The squadron syllabus covers everything from systems, navigation, low-level flight, advanced aerial combat maneuvering [ACM...also known as "dogfighting"], and communications.
In addition to training US Navy officers, it also conducts joint training fro US Air Force, Germany, Italy, and Singapore, and Saudi Arabia.
Upon graduation, the newly winged NFO's move to the Fleet Replacement Squadron "FRS" where they will learn to fly the aircraft the will fly on a daily basis once they go to their fleet squadron.
