"Tracy" is a song by Scottish Post-rock band Mogwai from their 1997 debut album, Young Team.
[edit] Overview
The song includes two phone conversations between Mogwai drummer Martin Bulloch and Mogwai's then-manager Colin Hardie, which details a studio disagreement between Stuart Braithwaite and Dominic Aitchison. It later turned out to be an elaborate practical joke played by the band during the final week of recording Young Team. The following is a transcript of the first of the phone calls.
Colin: We've gotta do something about this.
Martin: When d'you think you can make it over here? How long?
Colin: I can try and get there in, er, 25 minutes, maybe.
Martin: Right.
Colin: I'll try.
Martin: Okay.
Colin: We've got to sort this out. Okay, I'm just gonna go, I'm gonna head off and just... Try... Try to speak to people 'bout this matter, we've gotta do something!
Martin: Yeah.
Colin: If we don't take care of this then... I don't... I don't even want to think about it.
The following is a transcript of the second of the phone calls.
Martin: Hello, Hi Colin.
Colin: Hiya.
Martin: It's Martin.
Colin: Hi Martin.
Martin: Erm. I'm sorry tae bother you.
Colin: S'alright.
Martin: ...But we've got a bit of a sketch going on here.
Colin: What?
Martin: Erm, well, it pretty hard to explain, but, erm...
Colin: Tell us then!
Martin: Erm, we were doing a mix and, erm, Stuart and Dominic got into a row.
Colin: Uh huh.
Martin: ...And, erm, Stuart was getting a bit stroppy with Dominic and it ended up with Dominic punching Stuart, and walking out.
Colin: Mmmhmm?
Martin: Erm, and said he's not coming back. He's just saying that he's out, or something like that.
Colin: Right.
Martin: Err, Stuart's away for help. Meanwhile I was sitting here.
Colin: How's Stuart waiting?
Martin: Stuart's dad came in.
Colin: Aye, and is John still there?
Martin: No, he's away with Stuart for some reason... To calm him down or something. Another bloody sketch man, I don't know what to do, after this thing and Tuesday.
Colin: Right, erm, kinda limited to what I can do, right?
Martin: Yeah, but me and Paul are here totally, we don't know what to do, man. Me and Paul are sitting here and we don't know what to do.
Colin: Carry on mixing.
Martin: Yeah?
Colin: This sort of stuff happened before, you know.
Martin: It's pretty bad.
Colin: It's just a fucking sketch.
Martin: It's pretty bad.
Colin: Erm, well, right. If you could give Stuart a phone. Erm, we can sort something out, we'll just work around it.
Martin: I think Dominic's just gone to get wasted.
Colin: Uh-huh.
Martin: Yeah, but I don't know where he went, he just left, just got in the car and went.
Colin: Okay, well, I'll speak to Stuart, but then I'll get him to phone Dominic.
Martin: Right, okay, fine. Right, Colin. Well, sorry you got down with this tonight.
Colin: Fine, I'll soon phone you back.
Martin: Okay, no problem.
Colin: See you's.
Martin: Right.
Colin: Bye, later.
Martin: Bye.
