[edit] General plan

To get this rolling (no pun intended) I am writing with a hierarchy basically of the following:

  • Transportation History (all modes)
  • Highways and Roads
  • Railroads
  • Air
  • Waterways

Once the content is basically in place, we may wish to move section around or rework more, of course. A lot of the history is duplicative of portions of the History of Richmond, Virginia article, but with the focus in this article on just 398 years of transportation history. Including this history makes the following sections a lot more understandable IMHO.

I am thinking Metro Richmond and including a lot about the portions of the two contiguous counties which are closest to the inner city.

I hope the article isn't deleted before we can even finish it.

I think there's some wikipedia standard like.. WP:redundancy where it says it's ok to have some redundant content between articles. I think we maybe should have some subsection on ground transportation that involves GRTC, LINK buses, Groome transportation, independent taxi services, and speculation of having downtown trolleys. You need to ensure the intro paragraph scopes this article as far as area covered (Richmond-Petersburg versus RVA-Chesterfield-Henrico only) and the article's subdivisions as we are discussing here. btw, the vote is 7 to 2 so I am not worried at this point if it'll get deleted. you may want to save a copy on your hard drive just in case, though.
