- 1886 – Henry G. Ivatt, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, is born (d. 1976).
- 1897 – The Rio Grande Junction Railway sells the Colorado Midland out of bankruptcy to private investors.
- 1958 – Nickel Plate 765 is retired to Lawton Park in Fort Wayne, Indiana.[1]
- 1976 – An international train collides with a local train near Schiedam, the Netherlands, killing 24 and injuring 11.
