- 1911 – Electric trains begin work between London Victoria station and Crystal Palace.
- 1916 – Fred T. Perris, Chief Engineer of the California Southern Railroad, dies (b. 1836).[1][2]
- 1936 – The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway inaugurates the all-diesel powered Super Chief passenger train between Chicago, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California.
- 2005 – A fire engulfs a railroad bridge in Kearney, New Jersey, on the heavily travelled Northeast Corridor.
