- 1910 – George Whale, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Western Railway 1903–1909, dies (b. 1842).
- 1932 – William N. Page, American civil engineer who built the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway and the Virginian Railway, dies (b. 1854).
- 2005 – Amtrak's Three Rivers is discontinued west of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
