- 1853 – The Cincinnati, Cambridge and Chicago Short Line Railway, a predecessor of Pennsylvania Railroad, is incorporated in Indiana to build from New Castle southeast via Cambridge to the Ohio state line.
- 1958 – Robert Ralph Young, financier and controlling stockholder of the New York Central commits suicide after suspending company dividends, dies (b. 1897).
- 1999 – The New York City Transit Authority installs the first MetroCard Vending Machines (example pictured) at two subway stations in the city.[1]
