- 1880 – Following the Crédit Mobilier of America scandal, Union Pacific Railroad is reorganized as Union Pacific Railway.
- 1902 – The "consolidated railroad station" in Lenox, Massachusetts is destroyed by fire; investigation shows the cause to be the overheated basement furnace.[1]
- 1912 – The Utah Railway is incorporated to haul coal from the company's mines to Provo, Utah.
- 2005 – Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway introduces a new corporate logo (pictured on a tank car) that replaces the railroad's verbose name with BNSF Railway.
