- 1875 – Groundbreaking ceremonies are held in Pembroke, Ontario, for the Canada Central Railway line between Pembroke and Renfrew.
- 1909 – Great Western Railway begins using its Fishguard terminus in Wales for boat trains in connection with the Cunard steamships on Atlantic routes as a first port of call.
- 1959 – Streetcar service in Montreal, Canada is discontinued.
- 1999 – The United States Surface Transportation Board approves Utah Railway's petition to haul freight on the former Union Pacific Railroad line between Salt Lake City and Draper, a line now owned by Utah Transit Authority.
