[edit] Rialto Towers
Hypernovean. See Rialto Towers and its Talk page for my response to your correct comments.
Have you considered also contributing to Wikitravel? I have done quite a bit on http://www.wikitravel.org/en/article/Melbourne in preparation for my first visit to your city in a few weeks time. Cheers Nurg 06:08, 8 Jan 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Melbourne stations
I've started linking all the Melbourne stations. Starting to create articles for them was something I'd been thinking about doing for a while. Hope you don't mind! Ambivalenthysteria 22 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Don't mind at all, in fact I was going to do that too but was too lazy! Thanks for getting it going. Hypernovean 07:44, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Trams
Have you had a look at Trams in Melbourne, Australia? PMA 03:57, Feb 23, 2004 (UTC)
- I didn't realize that page existed! I'll definiately look into it. Hypernovean 07:44, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Melbourne and history
Please leave the Victorian local government pages alone while I am editing them. Thanks. Adam 10:59, 28 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Since you have taken it upon yourself to move Early history of Melbourne to History of Melbourne, I assume you are willing to write up the rest of the city's history? Adam 07:38, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- I didn't make that move, Clarkk did. I did however create the Timeline of Melbourne history page. Hypernovean 07:46, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)
My apologies - I will redirect my comment to him. Adam 07:53, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Locality boxes
I like the MelbSuburbs locality box Hypernovean! I've added an entry for Patterson Lakes using that style, hope you don't mind.. I'm not a local Melburnian so I'm not really familiar with a lot of suburbs.
What is the naming format for suburbs? If the name isn't unique, I generally use Suburb, Victoria, Australia but I've seen a few Suburb, Victoria 's around. If this has already been decided elsewhere, sorry - please point out where! --Chuq 10:06, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Of course I don't mind, I'm glad people have accepted the idea! As for naming, the format for article titles is generally just Suburb if unique, (Suburb, Victoria if not); and "Suburb is a suburb in Melbourne, Australia in the local municipality City of XYZ." is a common first line. I don't think an absolute convention has been decided on anywhere, but this is the common format. Hypernovean 10:31, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Actually, in looking at the existing pages, there is no common format... the above is just how I'd do it. Maybe there should be an application of consistency. Hypernovean 10:31, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
-
- I'm going on the assumption that if a suburb name exists as a city elsewhere in the world, its usually a city in the UK; and it probably exists in more than one place in Australia. Victoria itself is a particularly common location name as well, so thats why I use Victoria, Australia. But if the links work I won't bother changing old ones, I'll just create new ones to that format.
-
- Also check what I have done on the suburbs between Port Melbourne and St Kilda - see if you like the shading I've used. I think using the corner boxes might be a good plan, because as it is, St Kilda West is north of St Kilda (as the bay is on the left!) --Chuq 10:59, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
-
-
- I like the shading, and I suppose it's best to use the corners for more accurate directions; the reason I didn't at first was so that it was obvious the boxes represented N E S W, but I suppose it's easy to fiqure out, corners or no. I usually use just Melbourne, Australia, without the Victoria in between. Maybe all three should be there.. Hypernovean 11:04, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject
Thanks for creating the WikiProject. I've put my name down. Is there any chance you could take a look at List of Sydney railway stations and do a bit of formatting? You did a really good job on the Melbourne one, and that list is looking a wee bit bland at the moment. Ambivalenthysteria 09:40, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Not knowing much about the Sydney network, I can't add details like terminus stations, shuttles, and all that, but I'll have a closer look and see what I can do. Hypernovean 09:50, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
-
- Thanks a bunch. It looks a lot better now. Ambivalenthysteria 11:42, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Near East
Hi, I like the changes to Medieval: Total War, but I wonder about Near East vs. Middle East. It's pretty much synonymous and the latter is probably used more commonly, although I think it's easy to argue that the former is more correct. ;) Is there a general Wiki policy on that naming convention? Krupo 08:45, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
- To be honest I don't know, except that Near East is practically a redirect, and it suggests that Middle East is the more appropriate term. Hypernovean 08:57, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
-
- Fair enough. :) Krupo 20:12, 22 May 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Brisbane
Would you be able to perhaps do a list of railway stations for Brisbane? If we get Brisbane done, we'll have all the suburban networks in the country (as I've just done Adelaide), and I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the Brisbane configuration. Ambivalenthysteria 16:12, 12 Jun 2004 (UTC)
-
- I was actually planning to after doing Perth, but didn't get around to it yet. Hopefully in the next few days though. Thanks for the reminder! TPK 08:37, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- Thanks a bunch. Looking good so far. :) Ambivalenthysteria 12:37, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- Would you be able to take a quick look at the Sydney stations page if you get a chance? I'd appreciate a bit of help with formatting the South Coast line. Also, do you know if it's possible to get rid of those ugly spaces between the lines in the TOC there? Ambivalenthysteria 16:00, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- I can't see the spaces in the TOC (running Opera 6.05 for the record), though I do remember them appearing for a while (same browser), then disappearing again in the Melbourne list. Chalk it up to the new Wiki software's rendering twitches. TPK 23:39, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] WikiPoject again
Thanks for letting me know about Wikipedia:WikiProject_Melbourne. I'll potter around there a bit. Claudine 03:23, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Dear Hyper, thanks for your message aboutWikipedia:WikiProject_Melbourne. I'm afraid I don't share your enthusiasm for roads and railway stations, but I do want to write articles at some stage about Parliament House, Melbourne, the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne and the two cathedrals. I am also not very happy with the current state of History of Melbourne. I wrote it as Early History of Melbourne, covering the controversy over Batman's "treaty" and his rivalry with Fawkner. Now it has been re-labelled as a history of Melbourne, when it is of course no such thing. I would like to do more work on it when I get time. Adam 03:20, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Glad for the help. The history of Melbourne I think does deserve seperate pages for the early/foundation history, which is quite complex, and the later 19th and 20th century history. For now though, I don't really think the page name is that important frankly. TPK 14:20, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Railway diagrams
Is there any chance you could do diagrams for the Belgrave and Lilydale lines as you did for Alamein? That one looked pretty good, and it'd be good to move on to Belgrave and Lilydale next, considering the cruddy stubs there now (as a result of being on the top of Most Wanted Articles). Ambivalenthysteria 05:04, 2 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I'll get on to it as soon as I can... I wan't to try and make a cleaner diagram for the Alamein too; i.e. no jagged curves. TPK 10:55, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
-
- Wonderful!
-
- Just with the Lilydale line though - I think it's a bit misleading to only list the stations after the branch. Alamein and Flemington Racecourse are different, because they're really just spur lines. But when I think of, say, Box Hill, I think of it being on both the Lilydale and Belgrave lines, and I don't think I'm the only one. Ambivalenthysteria 15:17, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome
thanks a lot for the welcome!; i'll think about signing in the english wikipedia, just I'm more active in the german one as my native language is german an my english rather poor ;) --134.176.205.76 12:05, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome. I'm currently restraining myself from too much editing in en: in order to devote more efforts into a much smaller -pedia. So far I've had mixed success :) A-giau 23:56, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Thank you for the welcome, TPK! I think I've done as much as I can for 12 hours' work but making the parts I know a bit more Wikified! Stombs 13:32, Aug 15, 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks. It helps a lot! --Garlics82 14:50, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Photos
I know, they're pretty dark. I was pretty disappointed at how those three (Rushall as well) turned out. I figured that they're better than nothing, anyway, until I can get down to Melbourne again and attempt to take them again.
They were worse before - that's after an attempt at lightening! Feel free to take them out if you want, or have a go at lightening them further.
While we're on the topic of photos - any idea what to do about Spencer Street and Melbourne Central? I've had plenty of opportunities to take photos, but they're both under so much reconstruction its hard to tell exactly what to take them of. Ambivalenthysteria 13:14, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I'm planning on getting a digital camera myself (fiscal situation willing!), then I can help out getting more photos myself. As for SSS, I guess a picture from the Bourke St bridge of the entire site would be best; once the project's finished, it can be kept as a record of the development, along with final photos. For MelCen... I dunno; a photo of the main sign at Swanston/La Trobe? Or, to get technical, the foodcourt area outside the ticket barriers isn't a part of the station, so you could take one of the concourse from there. I've seen photos of the platforms at RailPage forums, where I'm a member, so I could ask whoever took them if they're willing to release them to WP as well. Or you could always just be very sneaky about taking new ones... :)
- I'm planning on taking a lot of photos, but again, god (money that is) willing. TPK 13:33, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Australian Capital Cities template
Hey Hypernovean, I love the template - great idea! -- Chuq 23:41, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks, it was just a quick idea I had. I'm trying to think of any other places that could benefit from a template as well... TPK 07:02, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Adminship Nomination
I've nominated you for adminship. Check out Wikipedia:Requests for adminship if you'd care to accept or decline it. Ambivalenthysteria 12:59, 18 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I've accepted. (Reply: User talk:Ambivalenthysteria#Thanks for the nomination).
[edit] Sysop
Congratulations! After getting 100% support on RfA, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the administrators' how-to guide helpful. Good luck. Angela. 13:23, Jul 25, 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've been looking forward to this. TPK 13:24, 25 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Congrats Hypernovean/TPK :) Chuq 06:03, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Camberwell
Nice job on the rewrite - with your additions, it's shaping up as our best station article yet. :) Ambi 12:36, 30 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll need to trawl back through newspaper archives to get some more info on the redevelopment plans though, as there's more to it, I'm sure. TPK
-
- I'm sure. I hunted around on the net, but couldn't find anywhere as near as much as you turned up on the plans. I'll get stuck into the Railways in Melbourne article in the next couple of days (provided I can still find my notes). I should be largely able to flesh it out through to about 1900, but it'll still need the info after that (of which I have very little), and things like what trains were used (which I'm not as interested in). Ambi 05:12, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)
-
-
- Haha, I'm the same: I'm interested in the tracks more than the trains :-} Anyway, I have some more information on electrification and railway disasters which I'll add, but that still leaves gaps. TPK 12:25, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Mohammad Taqi al-Modarresi
We're supposed to give people a shot at translating articles like this before deleting them. -- Grunt ҈ 22:35, 2004 Sep 15 (UTC)
- Oh sorry, well I've added a comment to the anon's user talk asking if they can translate. TPK 22:41, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Pruning
You're pruning collaboration of the week nominations of which some still have a day left before they should get pruned. I don't really think they'll get the needed votes by tomorrow, but some wikipedians might feel that it is unfair to prune their nominations a day too early. Please only prune articles that should be pruned on that day (UTC!). Thanks for the pruning-help anyways! :-) --Conti|✉ 17:42, Sep 16, 2004 (UTC)
- Damn timezones! I've reset my preferences to stick to UTC in future. TPK 17:44, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for your "better late than never" welcome :) My editions here are really scarce, you know, but I will try to enhance this someday. By now, I'm doing admin tasks at the es: (our official name now is "librarians" and my nick is pieter) and helping a bit at ca: (I'm Catalan). Salut, -- 1984 00:49, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- No problem. If there's anything you could translate, you might want to look at Wikipedia:Translation into English. TPK 00:51, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] {{test}}
Why are you continually putting a 'test' message on my talk page. What am I testing exactly. Please explain. 66.167.235.16 01:37, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- See the message I left on the page, it is just policy not to blank talk pages as the message may be pertinent to someone else. TPK 01:39, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Where is this policy and to whom is the message pertinent? 66.167.235.16 01:40, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Blanking a page without reason is considered vandalism, and that includes blanking talk pages. As I stated, you either may have been directed to the wrong talk page, or someone else may have the same IP. Prehaps the message was placed in error, I don't know, but you could just ignore it and keep on contributing. Or get a user account. TPK 01:46, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Where is this policy and to whom is the message pertinent? 66.167.235.16 01:40, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I have been trying to ignore it, but you have a strong urge to see it preserved. Blanking one's own talk page is not vandalism. Please point to the relevant policy against blanking one's own talk page, I'd love to read it. 66.167.235.16 01:49, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Jeez, fine I'll leave it alone. I have no desire to endlessly screw with an anonymous user's talk page. But in fact, you are allowed to delete, reorganize, and archive your talk page any way you want. If you had an account. Anonymous IP talk pages are preserved as the page may be shared by more than one person. Didn't you read the disclaimer? There is no concrete policy regarding this, but prehaps there should be. I don't care. Get a user account and you can delete anything you want. TPK 01:52, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
If anything the contrary is true, see WP:CSD Other pages #4. Also what makes you think I don't have an account? 66.167.235.16 01:55, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- ...where the message is no longer relevant - The message was only posted 2 minutes before you deleted it. It may still be relevant to someone else. If the message really was posted in error, and no-one else could possibly use the same IP, take it up with Arminius. And if you do have a user account, log in and you'll have a nice shiny talk page all to yourself. TPK 01:59, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
No, the message is relevant to no one else and was posted in error. It shouldn't be necessary to sign in order to be treated well. Also, please don't refer to non-existent policy. 66.167.235.16 02:06, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- You were the one who took up this little vendetta over a simple test message. OK, prehaps I shouldn't have called it 'policy', but it is still the done thing when the message is so new... after a few days prehaps, if the message is no longer relevant, it could gracefully have disappeared. Now how am I not treating you well? All I did was ask you to leave the page alone in case it was pertinent to someone, anyone. Fine, let's assume it was posted in error. I can't tell that, so I revert it back. So what? Does it injure your pride somehow to have your IP tainted with a test template? TPK 02:14, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
The {{test}} message is generally left as a first warning against vandalism, so I certainly do not want it on my talk... do you want it on yours? I'll leave it there for a few days... don't dare touch it or I'll threaten you with non-existent policy. 66.167.235.16 02:20, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
-
- 66.167.235.16, quite frankly, you are acting childishly. Stop vandalizing user pages or you will be listed on Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress and potentially blocked from editing. --Ardonik.talk() 02:24, Sep 17, 2004 (UTC)
Thank you for the words of welcome. Any comments on content? Sexcheck 09:10, 18 Sep 2004 (UTC)
-
- If you're referring to the content you've added so far to Meaning, the only thing I could suggest is that you break the lead paragraph up; it could be made into several shorter paragraphs, just for clarity. More generally, you might want to look at Wikipedia:Manual of style for pointers. TPK 09:22, 18 Sep 2004 (UTC)
