Toyo Province

Toyo (豊国; -no kuni) was an old province of Japan, in the area of Ōita Prefecture and northeastern Fukuoka Prefecture. It was divided into Buzen and Bungo Provinces in 683.
Emperor Keikō is said to make Unade rule Toyo province and give him the surname Toyo-no-kuni-no-atai. This province is considered to have come under the central government at the early stage.
