Town & Country Village (Palo Alto)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Town & Country Village is a shopping center located in Palo Alto, California. It is bounded by Embarcadero Road, El Camino Real, Caltrain tracks and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. It is commonly known as "T & C" by students at Palo Alto High School.

Built in the 1950's around the San Francisco Bay Area, the Town & Country village shopping malls became very distinctive landmarks. These sprawling one-story oudoor malls each consisted of several large buildings with tile roofs, and dark wood supports. They reflected the environment of the Bay Area at the time, with many ranches and homes sporting a Spanish mission flair and the population's love of the automobile. Locations included San Jose (now demolished), Sunnyvale, and Palo Alto (undergoing renovation)

Town and Country was bought by Ellis Partners LLC, a San Francisco-based real estate development firm, in 2004. Town and Country is currently undergoing an extensive renovation, due to be completed in the spring of 2007. The $25 million project will include structural upgrades and landscaping (including the addition of trees).
