[edit] History

After the Houston area's depression of the 1980s, Town & Country Village opened in the 1990s. The center was designed to host upscale, yet non-expensive shops in a comfortable environment.

The center did fairly well in the 90s, the fresh, new architecture and good location on Beltway 8 attracted shoppers from all over the surrounding area. But the area's best years are in the 2000's, and currently the center is doing better due to a surge of shoppers after Town & Country Mall shut down. The center also hosts a good variety of stores, with major tenants including Barnes & Noble, Randalls, and Cafe' Express.

In the near future, the center will probably try upgrading the northernmost section of the center, which is very unincorporated and is hard to access. It is even believed that the shopping center itself will expand north to where the former Town & Country Mall used to stand.

[edit] Architecture and Landscaping

The center has very upscale architecture, not found in many other Houston city plazas. The center has a very modern, smooth architecture style and numerous foutians, gardens and patios. One of the best examples is the Cafe' Express patio, including a small foutian/pool and roadside gardens.

The landscaping is also carefully detailed, many avenues crossing the center have trees and imported grass lining them, and many ferns and potted plants are also located near Barnes & Noble. Entrances to the center have palm trees, gardens and foutians lining them, and extra decorations in the holiday season.

[edit] Sections

There are four different "sections" in the center.[1] These sections are actually different clusters of buildings, or stores, put together. The area north of Florence Drive is not listed as a section, but is still considered a part of Town & Country Village.

[edit] Section A

Section A is one of the most successful sections. Located on beltway 8 at Florence Lane, it includes a mix of stores and restaurants, such as TGI Friday's, Cafe Express, Bank of America, and Bombay clothes.[2]

[edit] Section B

Section B is the southernmost section, stretching from Memorial Drive to Kimberly Road along Beltway 8. It has a newer, more unnoticed mix of stores, such as GAP clothes, Bath & Body Works, Jo Ann's clothes, and Ann Taylor clothes.[3]

[edit] Section C

This is the largest of all the sections, and is the only one with a second level. Major tenants include Barnes & Noble, Hallmark Cards, Randalls, and Walgreens.[4]

[edit] Section D

Section D is located east at Memorial Drive & West Bough Lane. Focused on smaller, lower-budget retailers, is includes a store mix like Nextel, Quizno's Subs, and Houston-based TGF Haircutters. [5]
