Vehicles and Animals (2003) |
Tourist (2005) |
Tourist is the second full-length album by British rock band Athlete, first released in early 2005.
For their sophomore album, Athlete demonstrates a maturation in their musical style. Tourist is more stripped-down, sombre and reflective than Vehicles and Animals, and is also musically richer (arguably with similarities to Coldplay). "Wires", the first single taken from the album, entered at number 4 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming their highest-charting single so far. The album itself climbed to the top of the UK Album Chart on the week of its release.
Despite the album's commercial success, Tourist had a mixed reception, with some critics suggesting that Athlete failed to sustain the unique style of their previous album. Others saw the new album as a logical progression from their old sound.
At the end of 2005, Tourist became the 32nd best-selling album of the year in the UK, and "Wires" was the 89th best-selling single.
This album has been released with the Copy Control protection system in some regions.
