[edit] Merge Suggestion

I suggest that this be merged with the other Old Kingdom characters. Other characters might include Sabriel, Chlorr of the Mask, Lirael, Terciel, Sameth, Ellimere, Sanar and Ryelle, the Disreputable Dog, Mogget, Kerrigor, and Hedge. The names of the characters included in that comprehensive page would redirect to the correct area in the comprehensive page. Comments? Abhorsen327 13:51, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Name

I think this article not only should be merged with other characters, but should be called Touchstone, not Torrigan. When Touchstone is made King, he does not use his true name; he is called Touchstone throughout the whole series. In fact, his true name (Torrigan) is not revealed to the reader until the very end of Abhorsen. The article title should be changed to Touchstone. If no one protests to this, I will change it myself soon. 213.122.117.127 12:40, 4 June 2006 (UTC) Actually, I won't as I don't know how to, but someone certainly should. 213.122.117.127 12:53, 4 June 2006 (UTC) Ah, I can't as I don't have a User ID, but SOMEONE PLEASE DO IT! 213.122.117.127 13:00, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

I'll leave this here for a few days just to be sure, but if noone opposes the move, I think it's a good one, and I'll do it. Nihiltres 12:41, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
No, this is not a good idea. This is not even remotely close to being the primary meaning of "Touchstone". A modified alternative such as Touchstone (character) might be acceptable. olderwiser 19:59, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Sounds fine, I forgot about that - do we need to add disambiguation links anywhere? Nihiltres 02:29, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
We'll need a veritable dab page - Touchstone already has a topline dab with 3 entries, 4 sounds like enough for a dab page to me. Nihiltres 02:44, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
I think I'm pretty good with Touchstone (character) instead, although I'm not sure if there are policies or anything regarding disambiguation pages and stuff like that. -- Angela 22:33, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
OK, if nobody objects within 24 hours, I think it would be a good idea to make a redirect page linked from the existing Touchstone page which redirects to all the other meanings, including our Touchstone (character). Nihiltres 00:57, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Quick question: isn't there a character in a Shakespeare play (possibly As You Like It?) called Touchstone? He could qualify as Touchstone (character), so we have two Touchstone (character)s! Shakespeare's Touchstone doesn't have his own page, but he should probably have a redirect to As You Like It. This seems to be trickier than it looks... PS I'm the same person who proposed the renaming up there before I had a User ID. U-Mos 19:20, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

You're right, but since there is not and will never be a Shakespeare Touchstone page, Touchstone (character) can apply to Torrigan. Once there's a dab page, we can mention the Shakespeare character with a link to that article. What's the problem? (P.S. Glad you got a username. :) Anons always look suspicious.) Sounds good, I'm new here is all! Go ahead and do it I say. U-Mos 17:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, you know what they say - if you want something doing, do it yourself! Obviously, if I did anything wrong then fix it, but can you tell me so I can do better in future? Thanks U-Mos 20:05, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Moved to Touchstone (Garth Nix character). There are at least three fictional characters called Touchstone, two of which already have Wikipedia articles. This is one; the other is Touchstone (Syphon Filter); this also leaves the namespace free for the minor Shakespearean character, at no extra cost. Which is handy, because a (suitably sourced, of course) character study of Shakespeare's Touchstone, while not a priority as far as I am concerned, would make a perfectly reasonable short encyclopedia article. -- Arthur Frayn 19:35, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
