[edit] Plot
Puppet Master III is set in Berlin, Germany during World War II. The Nazi regime is experiencing heavy casualties and are looking for a way to reanimate their dead soldiers and increase their ranks. French puppeteer Andre Toulon rouses suspicion as a Nazi criticizer and soon his secret life-giving potions are discovered by the Nazis. He refuses to cooperate and during a Gestapo raid, Toulon's beloved wife is murdered. "Toulon's revenge" is carried out by his tiny creations, which are revealed to have the life-essences of actual people who were previously harmed or killed by the Nazis.
[edit] Puppet origins
- Leech Woman was created from the life essence of Toulon's murdered wife, Elsa.
- Blade contains the life essence of Dr. Hess, the surgeon who had worked under Major Krauss but came to respect Toulon. Like the surgeon, Blade is often the one to extract victims' brains.
- Pinhead was a truck driver, Hermann Strauss, who was shot while trying to smuggle food into a concentration camp.
- Jester was a joke-loving bookkeeper, Hans Seiderman, killed by the Nazis. His last wish was to get revenge on the Nazis, and Toulon helped make his dream "come to life".
- Tunneler was once a German soldier who disapproved of Major Krauss's actions and decisions. Before his death his life essence was transferred to a drill-headed puppet (somewhat a pun of the term Drill Seargent).
- This is Six Shooter's first appearance in the Puppet Master series. He is a cowboy with six arms, each with a loaded gun. Unlike the other puppets, Six Shooter's origins are never really explained.

[edit] Trivia
- Actor Guy Rolfe makes his first appearance as Andre Toulon in this film and portrayed the character in the remaining films (until his death).
- This film is unique among all the sequels in that it tells the back-story of not only Andre Toulon, but his puppets as well. Retro Puppet Master later followed a similar formula. Toulon and his puppets are also given a sympathetic take, rather than senseless killers.
- This film, along with the first five chapters were only available on DVD through a Full Moon Features box set that was out of print but now available from the Full Moon Direct website as well as from them through Amazon.com. The box also included the sixth and seventh chapters of the franchise and a bonus disc containing 45 movie trailers. Other than the first three films which have been released seperately as a Spanish region free DVD, the films have not been released individually themselves yet.
