Toro (magazine)

Toro was an award-winning Canadian men's magazine. It originally launched in April 2003, and ceased production on February 12, 2007. The magazine was upscale, intellectual and sophisticated, similar to GQ and Esquire, magazines from the United States and England. It targeted affluent Canadian men. Along with The Walrus, it was one of the few Canadian publications to produce long-form journalism.

The magazine was published eight times a year. The issues were listed as month/year or season(i.e. winter)/year.

The range of topics Toro published were film, TV, celebrities, music. books, sports, crime, health, fashion, food/drinks, travel, grooming, clothes, sex, media and women (usually Canadian celebrities).

After two issues, Toro received platinum and gold Folio Awards in New York City for its highly original design. Toro also improved upon the four National Magazine Awards it won in 2004 with six awards in June 2005, including gold for investigative journalism and fashion photography, a category the magazine has dominated since its launch. Toro unexpectedly folded on February 12, 2007, and the final issue, dated March 2007, was made available only online, as a PDF file.

The issues were distributed, free of charge, to subscribers of The Globe and Mail as a tipped-in supplement, on popular newsstands, or by subscription throughout the country.
