Tornved municipality

Tornved municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in West Zealand County on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 105 km², and has a total population of 9,135 (2005). Its mayor is Jens Stenbæk, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Jyderup.
Neighboring municipalities are Jernløse and Holbæk to the east, Svinninge to the north, Bjergsted, Hvidebæk, and Høng, to the west, and Dianalund to the south.
By January 1, 2007 Tornved municipality will cease to exist, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Holbæk, Jernløse, Svinninge, and Tølløse municipalities to form a new Holbæk municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 583 km² and a total population of 66,611 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Sjælland ("Region Zealand").
