[edit] Robert Parker

Hello. The "highly rated by Robert Parker" refers to the POV of a single critic and per WP:WINEGUIDE doesnt belong in a wiki article. The Wine Project WP:WINE is cleaning up these statements which are often vague, sometimes strongly POV, and sometimes just a plain sales pitch. They're just either not notable or not neutral statements by themselves. -- Regards Steve.Moulding 04:08, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

The Torbreck website has a very nice summary page of what critics have to say about the wines. That would be an appropriate place for the interested reader to learn of ratings and opinions about Torbreck wines. -- Regards Steve.Moulding 04:15, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability?

Howdy, In going through the wine stubs I found that this one doesn't really make any claims to notability along the lines of WP:CORP and WP:WINEGUIDE. However there are a fair amount of g-hits so it seems like there maybe something. Is there anyone out there who cares enough to flesh out the notability info in the article? • I may have a go at it - is there an existing winery article that you would suggest is a good model to base the claims of notability on? Camw 00:13, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I believe that Torbreck is one of the featured wineries in a number of his books. In addition, Runrig is very well known and is priced pretty close to a number of First Growths. That's why I believe that Torbreck is of mid-importance as a minimum. --theorb 01:38, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if there is really any one particular article to point to. Different wineries are notable for different reasons. Château Léoville-Las Cases is notable for its place in the Bordeaux classification, Chateau Montelena is notable for its part in the Judgment of Paris, Chateau Ste. Michelle is notable for its awards and is also one of the largest wineries in the Northwest wine regions, Eyrie Vineyards is notable for being the first to produce Pinot Gris in the US, Delamere Vineyard is notable for it's long tenure in Tasmania and its wines are internationally imported, Houghton Winery is partially notable for its association with Jack Mann. I am having a similar conversation with another editor on my talk page where I noted....

"I think the point of WP:WINEGUIDE is that Wikipedia is not meant to be catalog listing of every winery that produces wine but rather an encyclopedic reference for Wineries that have done something significant or a unique contribution to the world of wine. That covers a rather vague span and there is a fair amount of wiggle room there. With articles like Chateau Yaldara, all we are looking for is really something that distinguishes it self-like the largest producer in the area, or of a particular varietal, the first to do <blank>, international tasting competitions, ownership or employment of a significant wine personality, etc."

Simply put, notability for wineries is really just something, anything, that distinguishes it as unique or different from just simply being a winery that produces wine in such and such place. It not really a high bar but it is still a bar we should strive for with our wine articles. AgneCheese/Wine 06:46, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
