Top attack

Most armored fighting vehicles are least protected from the rear and the top. The assumption is that the primary threat will be from the front and sides. A Top Attack device is designed to detonate over top of an armored vehicle because the armor is usually thinnest on this face of the target.^{[citation needed]}

The device may be a missile, artillery shell, or even an emplaced munition. Ideally, maximum energy is directed at a 90 degree angle to the attacked surface. This should result in maximum, economical damage. (The ratio of cost of weapon VS target cost.)

The Swedish BILL 2 is one of the most efficent overfly top attack anti-tank missile in service nowadays. Its double shaped charge warhead and its overfly attack pattern makes it able to defeat even the best protected armored vehicle.
