Template talk:Top

[edit] Purpose

This template functions with its companions Template: mid and Template:bottom to create a two column region with a light yellow or "straw" background color.

[edit] Change proposed

The instruction at Wiktionary:template:top, from which this template and its companions {{mid}} and {{bottom}} are derived, suggests its use (due to the characteristic "straw" background color) should be restricted to translation tables. It is unfortunate that such basic templates as these should have a background color (except as an option). The default color should be removed so that the templates will be more general, for creating two simple columns of lists or text. --Blainster 17:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

There are other alternatives for creating multiple columns, including the group Template:Col-begin, Template:ColBreak or Template:Col-2, and Template:Col-end. Wiki pipe syntax (see Help:Table) can also be used. See Template talk:Columns for discussion on suggested new techniques. --Blainster 22:43, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
