Pretty sure Gordon Parks is from Fort Scott, not Topeka.
Highway 24 and Highway 40 are not "co-incident" between Topeka and Lawrence. (See map on page - 24 is north of river 40 is south of river)

Someone should write about how boring it was to grow up there. These kids today have it easier because of the internet-back in my day we were very isolated in topeka.

- When did you grow up there? _I_ grew up in Topeka and it was anything but boring. What did you want? Boyles Joyland on summer evenings, the demolition derby out at Topeka Raceway Park on Saterday nights, The Santa Fe Band concerts, the Zoo, Billard pool in Gage Park, the best public library in the central US south of Minneapolis, Summer camp programs at the Parks and Rec shelters, Go Karts out near Lake Shawneed, two roller skating rinks, Topeka Jazz workshop, Helen Hocker theater, civic symphony, scouting, fishing, fossils (did you mother not have a crinoid necklace? , walking the storm sewers from Washburn park west into Westboro. _Biking them_... washing airplanes out at Allen's Airport at 21st and Wanamaker, getting jump flights over to Billard to tank up if you did a good enough job. My daughter lives in Brooklyn, my son in Minneapolis, and THEY both claim that Topeka was a good place to grow up in the 80's and 90's. It _CERTAINLY_ was in the 50's and 60's.....

I've thrown together articles, slightly better than stubs, for mayors Butch Felker, Duane Pomeroy, James McClinton, and Bill Bunten. Since I know nothing about Topeka, if someone with more local knowledge can look at these, I would appreciate it. I haven't been able to dig up online resources, besides name dropping, for any mayors previous to them. JRP 17:38, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

I am pretty sure Coleman Hawkins is a native of St. Joseph, Missouri. I could be wrong, or he could have grown up in both places, but I've always heard him mentioned as coming from St. Joseph.

There probably should be some kind of inclusion of the Phelps family. They're nationally known and from Topeka. Everyone in Topeka has to deal with them often.
