From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A tag has been placed on Melvin Chin, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. BigDT 16:38, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chin Wee Loon

I deleted Chin Wee Loon as non notable. This is an encyclopedia. --Chris 73 | Talk 08:57, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Notable for winning 4th place at a UMNO competition.UMNO competition , because first second and third places are all Indigenous Malaysians.

[edit] Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

Please stop adding the image which includes a student (who I assume is you) to Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. If you want to take a new photo which DOESN'T include someone standing in the picture, then that would be great and would be appropriate for the encylopedia. However, including posed photos of people isn't suitable for article inclusion. Thanks, CLW 10:32, 24 December 2006 (UTC).

The same applies to the photo you added to Belfast City Hall. I don't know if the chap in the photo is you or a friend of yours, but adding his photo to Wikipedia articles under the pretence of illustrating the subject of the article is inappropriate. Please don't! If you want to take a picture of Belfast City Hall at night to illustrate the article, then great, but don't include yourself or your friends in the photo. Thanks! CLW 11:56, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfD Nomination: Chin Wee Loon

I've nominated the article Chin Wee Loon for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Chin Wee Loon satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chin Wee Loon. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of Chin Wee Loon during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion. Metros232 15:07, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Since general Malaysian politics are biased towards Chinese, it is exceptional for United Malays National Organisation to present 4th place for him. This satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion as notable information. In the imageImage:AABnWL.jpg, you can notice that he is the only Chinese. Tonytypoon 15:13, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minor edits

Please remember to mark your edits as minor when (and only when) they genuinely are minor edits (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one (and vice versa) is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'. Thanks! Kafziel Talk 15:30, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vanity

Hi Tony. Please leave messages on users' talk pages, not their user pages. Thanks.

A vanity article is an article written by the subject of the article. This doesn't seem to be the case with Xiaxue and Kenny Sia, which have been worked on by many different users. But if you disagree, then please go ahead and nominate them for deletion. CLW 19:37, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

  • What I was trying to point out, by using Xiaxue and Kenny Sia as comparison , that Chin Wee Loon article is not vanity. Okay I will leave it in your talkpage.Tonytypoon 19:59, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image deletions

Images have been deleted as requested. CLW 21:50, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just a tip

It's generally considered poor form to badger every person who has input at an AfD, as you have been doing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chin Wee Loon‎. You have asserted the subject's notability, which is fine, but repeating your assertions ad nauseam only makes the discussion harder for others to read and makes you seem confrontational. You are free to offer your input in whatever way you feel is appropriate, but saying the same thing over and over will not help keep the article on Wikipedia. Kafziel Talk 22:02, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Out of curiosity

Are you of the opinion that China is not nationalistic? If not, how do you explain things like the Tiananmen Square massacre, the invasion of Tibet, and the return of Hong Kong to the PRC? In my experience, every country is nationalistic; that's how they maintain their identities as sovereign nations. What makes Malaysia so unusual? Kafziel Talk 05:44, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

  • The Muslim Religion. In Political_aspects_of_Islam, it says "it is nationalism in a Muslim context". In the Early Malay nationalism, it says "In 1990, a group of Malay Islamic scholars — publishing articles advocating independence for Malaya and Indonesia as one Greater Indonesia." So the answer is: Malaysia is characteristic because of the Muslim Religion. Tonytypoon 07:46, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
    • So you're opposed to Malaysians just because of their religion? Kafziel Talk 14:11, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
      • No. United Malays National Organisation is a political party. It is okay to criticize a political party right? Tonytypoon 15:10, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
        • Not on Wikipedia it's not. If you want to do that, make your own website. Kafziel Talk 15:38, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
          • The criticism is the most significant point in Chin Wee Loon's biography. Tonytypoon 15:52, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] For your information

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Malaysian_people_stubs contains a lot of people. In comparison, Chin Wee Loon is notable enough. Tonytypoon 15:52, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

As I said above, saying the same thing over and over (and over and over and over again) will not help keep the article on Wikipedia. Listing other garbage articles as a reason for keeping your garbage article does not work. You're not the first to try it - it's a very common thing for new users to do - but nobody is going to accept that as a reason to keep it. As the old saying goes, two wrongs do not make a right. Kafziel Talk 20:21, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Nice saying. Tonytypoon 20:27, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfD comments

Please when adding a "vote" to an article for deletion discussion, add it to the bottom of the discussion rather than somewhere in the middle like you have been doing. Also, when you are making a "vote" put a * in front of it rather than indenting it with ::: like you have been doing. Thanks, Metros232 20:29, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:AABnWL.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:AABnWL.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 04:49, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bushtalk

Can you explain what your vote here means and how it relates to the discussion at hand? Metros232 05:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I've made a reply to your clarification at the discussion page there. Metros232 05:45, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] For deletion participation

Tony, I REALLY suggest you stop !voting at AFDs, IFDs, RFDs, etc. until you get a better understanding of Wikipedia. Your !vote at the redirect for the BushTalk quite obviously shows your misunderstanding of a lot of Wikipedia policies and features. Other comments like article does not make sense to me or image makes sense are not valid reasons to delete or keep something. Please reconsider your involvement with "for deletion" discussions until you have some better knowledge of Wikipedia. Metros232 06:05, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Alrighty. Tonytypoon 06:07, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Agree! Tony, please read this and then revisit your comments here. Roguegeek (talk) 07:12, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:AABnWL.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:AABnWL.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Chowbok 05:41, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
