Tony Rodham

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tony Rodham is the youngest brother of New York Senator and Former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Rodham is the son of Hugh Rodham, Sr., a Chicago textile wholesaler, and Dorothy Emma Howell Rodham. He has one other sibling, older brother Hugh Rodham, Jr..

He attended Iowa Wesleyan College and the University of Arkansas, although he never received a degree from either school. He then worked at various jobs in Texas, Chicago and South Florida, including selling insurance, working as a process server, and serving as a private detective. In 1992, during Bill Clinton's first presidential campaign, Rodham began working for the Democratic National Committee, coordinating constituency outreach.

In 1993, he and his brother Hugh ignited a small controversy when they tried to solicit corporate donations for Clinton's inaugural parties; they dropped the effort after a public outcry.

In 1994, Rodham married Nicole Boxer, daughter of United States Senator from California Barbara Boxer, in a ceremony at the White House. They had one son, Zachary, before divorcing in 2000.[1]

In March 2000, Bill Clinton pardoned Edgar and Vonna Jo Gregory, owners of the carnival company United Shows International, for charges of bank fraud from a 1982 conviction (the couple were already out of jail, but the prior conviction prevented them from doing business transactions in certain states). Rodham was an acquaintance of the Gregorys, and had lobbied Clinton on their behalf.[2] In October 2006, the group Judicial Watch filed a request with the U.S. Justice Department for an investigation, alleging that Rodham had received $107,000 from the Gregorys for the pardons, in the form of loans that were never repaid, as part of a quid pro quo scheme[3] (see also Bill Clinton pardons controversy).
