Tony Newman (drummer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Anthony 'Tony' Newman (born 17 March 1943, in Southampton, Hampshire) is an English rock drummer. He was at various times a member of the bands Sounds Incorporated, May Blitz, Three Man Army and T. Rex; and has also worked with Jeff Beck, David Bowie, Donovan, Mick Ronson, Gene Vincent and Crystal Gayle, amongst others. He is now residing in Franklin, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville, with two sons Luke and Jesse, both well on their way to a career in music as well.

One fine example of his drumming can be heard in Donovan's "Barabajagal," recorded in London in 1968 (from the liner notes to Donovan, Troubadour, The Definitive Collection, 1964-1976, Epic Legacy CD 46986). This track features excellent ghost note snare drum work and a very solid groove.
