Tony Dwayne Harris was born May 13, 1967 in Monroe, Louisiana. After spending high school at Roosevelt in East Chicago, he later went to University of New Orleans.
Harris debuted in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1991-92 season, averaging 1.7 points on .250FG and .500 FT in 6.8 minutes a game in 6 games.
The mecurial Harris, nicknamed the Hurricane, then blew into the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in 1992 as an import for the Swift franchise. Harris is widely acknowledged as one of the most dominant imports in PBA history by virtue of scoring a PBA record 105 points for Swift when they defeated Ginebra 152-147 in a game held in Iloilo City on October 10, 1992. Tony Harris had a fleeting dalliance with starlet Ilonah Jean, who was also linked to 1986 PBA Rookie of the Year Dondon Ampalayo.
In 1994, Tony Harris wore jersey number 43 up for the Boston Celtics for two seasons. In 1994, he had his best season with averages of 8.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 turnovers on 17.6 minutes in 5 games. He finished his NBA career with an average of 4.9 points on 10.5 minutes in fourteen contests.
