Anthony Gonzalez (born February 27, 1976 in Torrance, California) is an American football tight end who has played his entire NFL career for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gonzalez lettered in both football and basketball at Huntington Beach High School in Huntington Beach, California. He caught 62 passes for 945 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior. He was also a first-team All-America selection as a tight end and a linebacker. In 1994, he was named Orange County and Sunset League MVP in basketball as he averaged 26.0 points per game, shooting 65 percent from the field (234 of 365) in his final year. And was named the Co-Orange County High School Athlete of the Year along with Tiger Woods.[1]

In college he played basketball and helped his team, California, beat Villanova in the 1997 NCAA tournament to reach the Sweet 16. He tried out unsuccessfully for the Miami Heat.

Tony Gonzalez was selected with the 13th pick in the 1997 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. In his NFL career, Gonzalez has played in seven pro bowls from 1999-2005, and he is widely regarded as one of the best Tight Ends in the league. Even though he has not played 10 full seasons, Gonzalez ranks 2nd all-time in receptions by a tight end behind Shannon Sharpe. At 62 career TD catches Gonzalez has tied Shannon Sharpe's record for most TD catches by a Tight End in a career.

His contract extension of five years was signed on January 12th, 2007, solidifying his career as a Kansas City Chief.

  • Single-season record for receptions and second most receiving yards by a tight end: 102 receptions for 1,258 yards (Kellen Winslow had the most yards in a single season with 1290 in his second year with the Chargers) (12.3 avg.) in 2004.
